This Nagarjuna Besha is done in years in which there remain six days of ‘Panchaka’ in lieu of 5 in the month of Kartika. On such occasion, Lord Jagannatha and Shree Balabhadra get dressed like Nagarjuna (a military general) on this extra day.
This Nagarjuna besha is observed during Kartik month occasionally when Panchuka (last five days of Kartika month) observed as six days instead of five. As per mythological information , this besha is celebrated in commemoration of killing of Sahashrarjuna by Parsuram or battle between Aurjua and his son Nagarjuna . The deities adorned with golden hands, Legs bids and weapons made of Gold.
In the recent past, this Besha solemnized on 16.11.1994. The earlier such dates were 26.11.1966, 16.11.1967, 3.11.1968 and 26.11.1993.
The Nagarjuna Besha of Srimandir deities is scheduled to be organised November 27, 2020 after a gap of 25 years, said astrologer Baikuntha Nath Nayak of Samanta Chandrasekhar almanac.
